Red Max in Brazil

Sailadventures in the caribean in the

Antiqua Sailing Week 2001

Where it all began...

The proposal was a yacht of 63ft ( regarded as the optimum size to match performance with comfort). The ends of the yacht were kept light, with the interior concentrated around the center of the yacht. Besides the keel there is also the possibility to make water-ballast (1250 kgs) so that the yacht can easily be sailed upwind at maximum speed by a single person. There are twin wheels at the back to ensure maximum visibility, while all sheets and halyards are led back to the cockpit for shorthanded sailing. There is a computer management system on board which amongst other things controls the lifting keel which can be raised from a draft of 3.60 meters to one of 1.70 meters.

Confort and Performance

When sailing the Red Max there is unsurpassed confort available.
For example at the nav station there is an ergonomic designed Aeron chair from Herman Miller, which from his raised position gives a perfect 360 degree view in order to keep a lookout and a check on the sails as well as the Poitiron computer directly in front of you. Directly next to it there is access to a wet-locker and heads on the port side.
Ample sail storage was another important requirement for which the forward section of the yacht has been reserved creating a spacious multi functional sail compartment.

Red Max is the firstborn in the Max Yachts Dynasty and was launched on the 4th of July 1998. The honours of launching lady were taken by Lisette Van Rijswijk, the daughter of the owner.

The outside luxury also continues below decks with two spacious double cabines at the back, television and hifi equipment, a separate lower saloon area on port and a large ergonomic designed galley on starboard complete with large fridge/ freezer and electric hob ( no gas required on board ! ). Not to mention that there is of course ample storage space provided for throughout the interior.
The interior styling of the first yacht, is marked by a simple contemporary style. It has been done by Hans Manger of Tokens. Hans made use of soft colours combined with a warm wooden floor and Corian tops. This combined with the indirect lighting and courtesy light around the lower skirting gives the interior its fine taste and distinctive style which blends in well with the concept of performance married with comfort.

MAX YACHTS

The project started by Bas Van Rijswijk may only appeal to a small number of people but it has already found more and more support. For this reason he started the marketing company Max Yachts which more than the yachts themselves stands for a philosophy, a way of living, without compromises on quality, concept or the people and materials used to realize them.

Max Yachts offers a professional approach on the highest level, based on a novel personal concept where a potential customer can choose his own interior lay-out best suited for him as well as the builder which will be assisted by top naval architect, Alex Simonis, and Max Yachts appointed engineers. This way his dream can become reality anywhere in the world where there is a yard which complies with the stringent quality requirements as laid down by Max Yachts.

The concept, which became reality in the yacht "Red Max" will make its world debut at the Seaport Marina Boat Show ( 11th till 20th of September 1998 at the Willemdok in Antwerp ). This parade will consist out of sailing on the river Schelde accompanied by five sixty footers which have participated in previous Withbread Round the World Races.

Bas Van Rijswijk wants to promote his concept in the States as well as Europe and for that reason Red Max will participate on several races and boat shows all around the world.

In the meanwhile there is already another Max Yacht of 45 feet under construction in Brazil while in the Netherlands there are plans on the table to start a 55 footer based on the same Max concept.

Sailing yachts designed for sailors who only want the best!
